The Setting[/u]
Dignity Island is an uninhabited tropical island in the middle of the pacific ocean that has been by-and-large ignored by humans ever since its discovery late in the eighteenth. Created by a now-dead volcano many thousands of years ago Dignity Island is a roughly circular land mass that covers approximately five square miles. The majority of it is covered in a dense tropical jungle that supports and amazing variety of life. There are few mammals, only bats having naturally found their way here, but birds, amphibians and reptiles thrive in abundance, along with an amazing assortment of insects.
There are no seasons here. Instead rain patters through the dense canopy almost everyday and feeds the earth below. Just off the coast storms often rage, but their fearsome winds lose their energy as they hit the sandy shores.
The Cats
During their fleeting interest in Dignity Island the human explorers arrived in ships. On these ships they carried cats to control the rat onboard rat population, but when the ships abandoned the island they left members of both species behind. The rats quickly adapted their new home and continued their sneaky, scurrying lives as they always had, but the cats had a harder time of it. During their first years on the Island they banded together into a group known as DignityClan in the hope that together they would survive. Soon they learned how to live in their strange world, but the bonds that held initially held DignityClan together did not break.
As the years passed the cats discovered StarClan; the ghosts of their ancestors. These ancestors guided them as they elected a leader, who in turn chose a deputy. A system of training young cats, known as apprentices, became established and over time a cat wise in the art of healing was chosen too. A tradition of loyalty and bravery became entrenched in the cats' hearts, and there it stays to this day.
